Stuart Redman - Home on the Range

Stuart (Stu) Redman's home town of Arnette, Texas is fictional. Descriptions of it in the book put it north of Houston and south of Tyler on the east side of the state. From there, he is flown to the equally ficticious Braintree, Texas. Stu worked at a calculator factory when he was employed, which was only occasionally. The town of Stafford, Texas has been the home of a Texas Instruments factory since 1967. It's closing at the end of 2012.

When he wasn't working at the plant, Stu paid the bills at Hap's gas station. This is where Charlie Campion crashes his car and succumbs to Captain Trips, the super flu virus. 2238 South Main Street is near the edge of town on Route 90, an arterial roadway.

How to Ride The Stand

The Stand is Stephen King's epic post-apocalyptic road trip novel. With at least twelve different trips mixing and merging with each other, this book poses some unique challenges. Trips within this e-guide trace the routes of the characters with the most appearances. Where paths cross (as in the case of Fran Goldsmith/Harold Lauder and Nadine Cross/Larry Underwood), the characters which appear later in the book will be cross-referenced with the earlier character's line. The same holds true for paths which merge (i.e. Stu Redman and Fran Goldsmith/Harold Lauder). Some locations in The Stand are fictional, as are some locales within real towns. In those cases, this guide will use real locations which correspond reasonably well with the fictional locations in the book. Finally, trips in The Stand are mostly traveled on foot, with some portions traversed by bike, motorcycle, or rarely, automobile. This guide is geared towards completing all the described routes by car. Pick one of twelve trips from this Stephen King masterpeice, load up your car, and head out. Make sure you pack your cold medicine. It seems like the flu may be going around.
